This will just get worse and worse. First there was the tragic loss of life in the initial explosion, then an unmitigated ecological disaster in one of the most fragile and under-pressure ecosytems in the country. The loss of livelihood for the fishery workers and tourism will be one thing, but the economic effects of this will deepen soon, since offshore oil rigs generate a lot of the income for the residents of Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi. When rig employees stop being able to work, a lot of businesses — large and small — that rely on their dollars will evaporate or begin to cut expenses (staff).
Total devastation.
